A PUBLIC HEARING ON THE FATE OF THE LIGHT INDUSTRIAL CORNER OF THIRD AVE AND VANCOUVER ST.
WILL BE THE LAST OPPORTUNITY TO SAVE THE TREES
ENHANCE THE VIEWS, ALLOW THE BIRDS PERCHES,
SHADE US, BREATHE WITH US, RECYCLE WATER, OFFER FOOD
AND SO MUCH MORE!
AND THIS ONE AND ONLY PUBLIC HEARING
IS COMING UP IN EARLY FEBRUARY 2010…
The dreaded concept is UNDERGROUND WIRING.
To bury wires, trees are removed.
The LINES ON THE OCP MAP are what MUST BE REMOVED.
The next corner is to the south, the as yet untouched Westminster St. between Third and Second Ave.
Now a line on the OCP map from the early 80’s.
A Squamish Council elected by less than 50 % of the voting populace
continues to follow the direction
of the new direction council of a few years ago
not that of the Squamish Council of years ago and
AN IMPERFECT BUT GREENER OCP of the early 80’s.
There won’t be building on the shores of the Mamquam
without an OCP amendment.
The new direction council is now gone,
but the CLEAR CUT AND BUILD plans of Squamish Councils are being put into effect .
The OCP is continuously amended,
to accommodate this plan and to double the Squamish population using condos and townhouses,
in all areas of the Squamish valley, especially in the waterlogged downtown area.
Filling lots as per Flood Plain Legislation from the early 80’s, regardless of the flooding that occurs on
the properties of neighbors who have been here for decades paying ever increasing taxes.
EVEN THOUGH FILLING DOESN’T WORK AS IT RESULTS IN FLOODING,
this Flood Plain Legislation Plan FROM THE EARLY 80’S CONTINUES.
NEIGHBORS OF THOSE WHO FILL THEIR PROPERTIES are FLOODED.
The Plans are for roads where there are precious few trees and underground wiring which ignores the necessity
for these few trees. Cherry trees decades old are already gone.
The engineering dept. plan is to put all downtown wiring underground.
What tree will be spared that has it’s trunk on district roadside?
It is law that property owners are responsible for the roadside.
Trees and all that a property owner has on the roadside, cars, trees and flowers
belongs to the property owner. The roadside belongs to the District.
A tree has many parts. A tree may root into and overhang a property.
The District has ignored
the extent to which the Tree Grows away from the District roadside and onto Private Property.
After decades of care for these trees by the property owners
and the benefit of these trees to every living thing,
these trees need to be spared.
Lines on a map need to be changed in favour of the natural world
not the world that man makes by destroying all that is beautiful and beneficial.
THIRD AND VANCOUVER ST. NEEDS TO BE THE BEGINNING OF THE
LAST STAND OF THE TREES.
THROUGHOUT THE DISTRICT TREES NEED TO BE PROTECTED AND PLANS CHANGED
TO ALLOW TREES TO STAND.
WHAT IT TAKES TO GROW A TREE IS TIME.
THE TREES IN SQUAMISH
HAVE BEEN GROWNING WITH US
LET THIS TIME NOT BE WASTED
LIKE THE FORESTS THAT HAVE BEEN
CLEAR CUT AND BURNED
WE MUST LOSE THIS
CLEAR CUT AND BUILD
THE LAST FEW DECADES WE HAVE GROWN OLDER
WITH THESE FEW BEAUTIFUL STANDS OF TREES.
WE MUST GROW WITH THEM
WE MUST BECOME WISER
WITH THE PASSING OF THESE DECADES
WE HAVE SHARED WITH THESE TREES
SEASON TO SEASON
WITH EACH GENERATION
OF MAN AND BIRD AND BEAST
WE MUST GAIN IN UNDERSTANDING
WE MUST LIVE TOGETHER
IN CONTINUED CO-EXISTANCE
THRU THE WISEDOM GAINED
IN THESE LAST FEW DECADES
AS THESE TREES GREW
SHELTERING MAN, BIRD AND BEAST ALIKE.
